Q: What is SATO4848-Hour Film Challenge & Festival?

SATO48 stands for Springfield And The Ozarks 48-Hour Film Challenge. SATO48 (when it's a Film Challenge) Tasks filmmaking teams to create. in just one weekend (48 hours), a 5-minute (or less) film. The twist is that the teams don't know what their film must be about until the INSPIRATION PACKAGE is revealed, simultaneously to all filmmakers, at the kickoff! After the Inspiration Package is revealed, all shooting, editing, and sweetening (such as adding a musical soundtrack) must occur within the 48 hours. SATO48 (when it's a Short Film Festival) A week or so later, at a premiere festival screening, the films are revealed to audiences who then vote for their favorites. A couple of weeks after the festival screenings, a panel of international judges reviews the top films (as selected by the viewing audience), and winners are announced at an Awards &amp; Recognition Ceremony, followed by an after-party. SATO48 (when it's a broadcast TV show) Now in its 3rd Season, SATO48 The TV Show, airing on The Ozarks CW, every Saturday at 9:30 p.m., is a lively discussion with the filmmaking Team, Co-Hosts Kyaw Tha Hla &amp; Jeff Clinkenbeard, and includes a showing of the film itself.

Awards Criteria

Best Film Best Interpretation of the "Inspiration Package" The inventive & interpretative use and integration of the Inspiration Package elements.

Audience Favorite Is selected by the audience and filmmakers attending the festival and online, rather than by the Selection Committee or International jury.

Cinematography Effective use of light & shadow and the contribution to telling the story.

Direction Effectiveness of actors, camera placements & movements and composition on the screen.

Editing Effectiveness of scene transitions, tempo, mood changes and continuity of telling the story.

Performance - Lead & Supporting Emotional effectiveness and believability in portraying the character.

Poster Convey clear communication that has readability typography legible from afar. Includes the logo of the event. Composition, contrast balance, that combine visuals with information. Engaging and easy to follow yet creates connection as well as an enduring emotion.

Production Design/ Art Direction The overall "look" of the picture, effective use of color, texture, types of props, set pieces and locations.

Screenplay The structure, plot, character development, dialogue and ending effectiveness of the film.

Song or Music Effectiveness of the soundtrack and/or music and must be original by an identifiable creator/s

SATO48 2021 Inspiration Package

This year there are three (3) IP Elements to fulfill, plus Prohibitions:

STORYLINE

Something that, or someone who, had left your main character's life is now back ! - Prohibited Who: Romantic partner - Prohibited What: Anything related to pandemics

Within the first minute:

Reveal "who or what" is back. Such reveal must initiate via SMELL - Required: timecode - Prohibited smells: flatulence, excrement, halitosis, armpit- or groin-generated

During the middle portion of your Film:

Explore the impact / consequences "who or what" being back has on your main character One of these impact / consequences must involve the sense of TOUCH - Required: timecode

Within the final minute of your Film:

If your team number is EVEN, the "who or what" is banished If your team number is ODD, the "who or what" remains - Required: timecode for "banished" or "remains"

NOTE:

Whether or not the "who or what" is banished or remains can be either good or bad for your main character.

REQUIREMENT

In the SYNOPSIS textbox within Festival Manager, you MUST indicate by TIMECODE (min:sec) where you have fulfilled each of the THREE Inspiration Package requirements.
